Greetings to everyone during this snowy and blustery winter!
We pray that all of you have been keeping warm and safe. This winter has been an intense one here in Jordanville, with frigid temperatures dropping well below zero Fahrenheit, very few breaks in the frigid cold, and nearly daily snowfall. As usual, the constant high winds create massive snowdrifts regardless of the forecast, keeping us continually on our toes.
The 1998 Bobcat 773 F-Series that we were able to purchase with your generous support has been a tremendous blessing. It arrived at exactly the moment when winter struck us the hardest in years, and we have been using it every day to clear snow and drifts and to maintain our three driveways. This year has been especially significant, as all of our services are being held in our house chapel on our property. Thanks to the skidsteer, we are able to keep the driveways clear and safe so that parishioners and visitors can attend services without difficulty.
While the machine itself is in excellent overall condition, it became clear that many of the fluids and filters had been neglected for much of its life. As a result, we have had some unexpected maintenance expenses this winter, with more work planned for the spring when temperatures are warm enough for the machine to be down for several days. We also are still in need of funds for the attachments such as the snow plow, pallet forks, and auger.
Despite the intense winter, unexpected maintenance, and limited funds for attachments, we have also had many joyful moments—and even some fun in the snow. Our dog, Agora, has discovered that Bobcat operation is the most fascinating activity imaginable. She carefully inspects every bucket load by taking a bite of snow, supervises each dump, and thoroughly evaluates the height and shape of every snow pile. Rest assured: all snow piles are rigorously quality-checked under her watchful eye. Our cats, meanwhile, are thoroughly enjoying their favorite season, spending long hours sleeping by the wood stove.
Another bright development this winter has been our progress toward the future church dedicated to St. Joseph the Hesychast. We are just about ready to launch a major campaign to begin the building process. Please be on the lookout for upcoming emails and news articles with more details.
We invite you to enjoy an album of photos from our winter so far, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued generosity, support, and prayers.
In Christ,
The Sisters of the Iveron Mother of God Monastery
